Disaster for Brown is narrowly avoided.

With Saturday night being a Double Points Night, it looked as if Tim Brown of Cana , VA was in a troubling position.

Starting lineup for the Farm Bureau Insurance 100 was determined by random draw, and Brown plucked 18th for his start out of a 19 car field. Fortunately for Brown, points contenders Randy Butner of Pfafftown and Burt Myers of Walnut Cove drew 7th and 12th.

But unfortunately for Brown, Myers was able to take advantage of a few double-file restarts to climb his way towards the front of the pack. It wasn’t long before Myers was ramming the bumper of race leader Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg – and Myers ended up taking the lead on a double-file restart on lap 38.

Myers defended his lead against a few taps to the rear from Lee Jeffreys and an outside row challenge during a double-file restart. With less than 30 laps to go, Myers was leading the way with Brown floundering in 11th place. If their positions remained unchanged, Brown’s points lead would be reduced from 62 points to only 22 points.

A multiple car collision gave Brown the opportunity to dodge past the melee and pick up some more positions. Then, he was able to take advantage of the ensuing double-file restart to climb through the field even more.

Jonathan Brown of Kernersville took to the outside row to challenge Myers for the lead, but the #1 car was able to beat Brown’s #53 into turn one to maintain the lead.

Myers ended up taking the checkered, bumping him up to second in the points. Randy Butner climbed from seventh to third on Saturday, dropping him down to third in the points standings – but keeping him only two points behind Myers.

Tim Brown’s battle to the front kept him in the top spot on the points ladder, 46 points ahead of Myers. Jonathan Brown’s second place finish keeps him fourth in the points.

In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Derek Stoltz of Walkertown took the checkered in the first race. Involvement in an incident in the second race threw him a curveball, but Stoltz dug in and flew back up to an 11th place finish.

Points leader Gary Ledbetter of Lexington measured up to the challenge set forth by points contender Derek Stoltz. Ledbetter finished second in the first race and ninth in the second race, strengthening his points lead.

Stoltz’s victory kept him in second in the points. Ronnie Clifton of Walkertown finishes fourth and eighth, earning the same amount of points as Stoltz and keeping him in the third spot on the points ladder.

Matt Cotner of Rural Hall raced from a 17th place start up to an 8th place finish, defending his points lead in the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series but narrowing the gap that separated him from the rest of the pack. David Sumner of Trinity claimed victory, maintaining his second place position in the points standings and moving him much closer to overtaking Cotner. Joseph “Bobo” Brown of Winston-Salem finished in second on Saturday, keeping him third in the points.

In the Time Warner Cable Stadium Stock Series, Dale Barneycastle of Mocksville drew the pole for his starting position and led every lap to claim victory. The win boosts him back into the points lead. A.J. Sanders of Mocksville, on the other hand, drew dead last for his starting position. Sanders fought up to a sixth place finish but still relinquished the points lead, dropping back to second in the points standings.
